UPDATE 17 Feb 2013 : Thanks to everyone who participated in the questions and answers for this session. We are working on the question and answer movie and – once we have both recovered from a week away from home – will post the final version here and post a notification via our @seenandheardlib Twitter account.

This handout from the ALIA Online workshop list the 18 final questions to which the established librarians responded , New Librarians Symposium Seen and Heard questions handout .

This page will contain the following in the next couple of weeks. For now, please see my blog post about the workshop  for more details.

  • information about how to join in from home via Twitter or other social media
  • information for participants about how to get movies to us during the workshop
  • little movies that are created from NLS6 for response at Information Online as we deal with them
  • other useful information for participants
  • the final stitched-together movie

The Questions asked at the New Librarians Symposium

Here is a movie of some of the questions asked at the New Librarians Symposium, Being Seen and Heard: Questions from New Librarians . This will be played in the workshop at Information Online on 12 Feb 2013. Participants will film their answers. These will be added to the Question movie to create a new question and answer movie.

The music was made by Andrew Finegan. Thanks Andrew.

Recording and uploading movies in the workshops

1) We will set up a filming station where people will record straight into iMovie using Kathryn’s Macbook. Kathryn and Molly will upload these at the end of the day and post a link to the questions movie here.

For Information Online only, participants can practice some of the techniques outlined in the workshop and record on their laptop webcam or smartphone. Not all footage submitted this way will be used. Please keep your piece under two minutes.

2) Please use a 16:9 ratio, save your file as a .mov and upload it to Youtube. We will use Google Takeout to download the files at the end of the day.

Here are some tips on setting up a YouTube upload from your device.

Go into the YouTube app on your device, find the settings (on iPhone it’s under ‘more’). There should be a sign in button. Sign in to the seen and heard YouTube account. Now go into where you saved the video and you should be given the option to upload it to YouTube.

For help with Android devices see this: http://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=57407

If you are using a laptop, you can log in and upload via the YouTube website.

3) Email to Dropbox if movie is under 1 minute
