June 2014 as questions

Uncategorized

I am dusting off this blog to take part in blogjune . Australian and New Zealand library bloggers are committing to write a post each day in June. It has been an annual event since 2010.

If you blog, or if you have been considering blogging, try popping over to Con’s blog and registering using this form. Giving it a go is fun and the consequences for not completing a post each day are … umm …. nothing. It’s worth a try.

I am not sure I will be able to manage to write a fully-fleshed blog post each day, so I am going to attempt a question each day. I am good at questions. Answers, not so much …

Why questions?

I’m full of questions.

I think my job as an educator is not to give answers, but to help my students learn how to ask useful questions – about the discipline, to solve daily problems in the workplace, to make the world a little bit better, for enjoyment, to stimulate their minds and hearts and those of people around them …

Asking the right question at the right time of the right person is one of the hardest skills to learn. The best questions have years of experience and thought and research around them, and can be deceptively simple. Often the most powerful question to ask is “why not ?”.

So, I’m having a go at blogjune.

Why not?

  1. Just realised you were the convener of Library Camp Australia 2014. This is belated, but I thought you did a fantastic job. Inspiring day for me, even though I couldn’t stay for the whole thing. Best of luck with #BlogJune!

  2. Thanks very much Steven 🙂 I can take credit for running the startup session, but not for the day. The Melbourne Library Camp folk like Kate Freedman and Sian Dart and Kim Tairi were the people who paddled like ducks under the water. … while the participants paddled beautifully on top of the water. You are right, it was a great day.

What do you think? Let us know.
