S is a librarian too. <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;color:#6600cc;\">Browsing though the shops afterward, we ended up at the new-ish <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bordersstores.com\/stores\/store_pg.jsp?storeID=693\">Borders bookshop in the Hay Street Mall<\/a>, as I&#8217;d not been there kid-free. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family:Arial;color:#6600cc;\"><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family:Arial;color:#6600cc;\">En route, we popped into the Birkenstock shop (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bstore.com.au\/about.aspx\">B store<\/a>) and tried on some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bstore.com.au\/whyMBT.aspx\">Masai Barefoot Technology Sandals<\/a>. These cost about $400 a pair, but we both have friends who had epiphanies over these shoes &#8211; they&#8217;ve cured their back pain; they&#8217;re going to wear them to balls, the beach and work; never will they wear anything else on their feet. The sole is shaped like a rocking horse&#8217;s rocker, forcing you to adopt correct posture and use your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sydneyphysio.com.au\/newsletter.html\">core stabilising muscles<\/a>. Of course, you need to be instructed in how to walk in them- so S and I imitated the &#8220;strutting dude&#8221; kind of walk, following the salesperson in a circle around the shop, looking like a kindergarten music and movement session.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family:Arial;color:#6600cc;\"><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family:Arial;color:#6600cc;\">Walking back to the train station in our infinitely inferior shoes, we realised what we&#8217;d been doing&#8230;.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family:Arial;color:#6600cc;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial;color:#6600cc;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size:130%;\">&#8220;Looking at books and checking out sensible shoes&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;color:#6600cc;\"><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family:Arial;color:#6600cc;\">Shhhh&#8230;. don&#8217;t tell anyone or we will have set the image of the profession back by 20 years.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family:Arial;color:#6600cc;\"><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family:arial;\">TODAY&#8217;S <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/librariansmatter.blogspot.com\/2006\/10\/technological-fads-fridges-and-hippie.html\"><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">HIPPIE CARD<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">: Grace<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"blogger-post-footer\">Imported from the earlier version of my blog that used Blogger.
