The ABS is poised to introduce Creative Commons licensing for the majority of its web content.<\/p>\n<p>The relevant Creative Commons logo <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by\/2.5\/au\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" width=\"80\" src=\"http:\/\/abs.gov.au\/websitedbs\/D3310114.nsf\/4a256353001af3ed4b2562bb00121564\/f63a5da556b78843ca25747800160a5b\/Body\/7.220!OpenElement&amp;FieldElemFormat=gif\" height=\"15\" \/><\/a><font color=\"#800080\"> <\/font>(which will link to the <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by\/2.5\/au\/\"><u><font color=\"#0000ff\">Attribution 2.5 Australia<\/font><\/u><\/a> Licence) will be included at the bottom of every page on the ABS website.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And, yes &#8211; you are right &#8230;you did read correctly&#8230;\u00a0This information is being released via an <strong>Attribution only<\/strong> license. You will soon be able to go forth and remix, repurpose and reuse material created by the ABS. You can even make huge amounts of money by re-selling the information if you\u00a0can work out how to\u00a0&#8211; just as long as you cite the source of your data.<\/p>\n<p>At the recent LIANZA conference I was very impressed with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lianza.org.nz\/events\/conference2008\/programme.html#booth\">a paper given by Kietha Booth<\/a> about how librarians within taxpayer and ratepayer funded organisations should work to help their organisations release their data in free, accessible and re-mixable formats. I&#8217;m very, very happy to see this happening in Australia.
