This was a two month collaborative project where library staff used a <a href=\"http:\/\/tikiwiki.org\">tikiwiki<\/a> environment to find out ablout blogs, wikis, social tagging, forums, RSS feeds, Library 2.0 and some of the associated memes. I wrote a wiki page defining each one and set weekly tasks involving one technology per week. I also ran a &#8220;hands on&#8221; workshop once a week.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/librariansmatter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/blogger\/blogger\/5423\/2997\/1600\/multarecord.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"https:\/\/librariansmatter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/blogger\/blogger\/5423\/2997\/320\/multarecord.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 153, 153);\">The reminder I sent out to staff about today&#8217;s meeting. Thanks to<a href=\"http:\/\/librarianinblack.typepad.com\/librarianinblack\/\"> Librarian in Black<\/a> for the pointer to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.says-it.com\/record\">says-it.com<\/a>.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);\"><br \/>\nWe decided how we wanted to continue to use the site, and to continue MULTAting new technologies (what about podcasting and screencasting and virtual worlds and&#8230;.). We are forming a group to implement some of the recommendations we created as part of a group wiki editing exercise.<\/p>\n<p>We finished up with an amazing spontaneous conversation . It just showed that people had really &#8220;got&#8221; the implications of the new tools.  The topics ranged from:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);\"> the budget for our online journals and whether people could access them well<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);\">google scholar<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);\">what our younger users are up to<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);\">how these tools are a bit like the internet when we were first exposed to them &#8211; we know that they will change what we do, but can&#8217;t exactly see how, <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);\">Second Life and Universities with campuses there<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);\">how we can find out how our users are using our site<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);\">how the number of information sources has grown so large that we can&#8217;t afford the luxury of providing subject heading access like we used to<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);\">how far we should go to meet students where they are instead of where we think they should be. (is this new for academic libraries? &#8211; I don&#8217;t think so)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);\">where intellectual rigour fits into students&#8217; searching strategies.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  ><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);\">Being able to talk about these things in a knowledgable way without seeming totally confused, scared or bewildered  was the aim of the project, so I was just sitting there thinking &#8220;yes, yes, yes..yaaaay!&#8221;. We raised many more questions than we answered, but I think that also might have been the whole point of the project.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: rgb(102, 0, 204);font-family:arial;font-size:100%;\"  > <\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"blogger-post-footer\">Imported from the earlier version of my blog that used Blogger.
