If exploring new worlds for librarianship, experimenting with new ways to do what we do and raving about it isn&#8217;t your thing, skip this post.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1145\/1286522845_26ae68da58.jpg\" width=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s why today was fantastic for me:<\/p>\n<p><strong>9:15am <\/strong>&#8211;  20 minutes or so in a meeting for Enquiry and Loans staff showing pretty slides and telling them what emerging technology is and why I think it&#8217;s important for library staff to learn about it, and then outlining the 23 Things program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9:40am<\/strong> &#8211; Upstairs to the accountant for Teaching and Learning where I used her credit card to order a Second Life island for the university.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10am &#8211; 12pm<\/strong> &#8211; Reference desk shift. Just another ordinary one, where I felt like I helped people and their faces lit up when I explained what the library held for them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:15pm<\/strong> &#8211; Emailed all library staff  announcing the 23 Things program starting mid September, and inviting them to register<\/p>\n<p><strong>12:30pm<\/strong> &#8211; Emailed  the university&#8217;s Second Life Interest Group telling them that we have an island<\/p>\n<p><strong>1:30pm  &#8211; 5:00pm<\/strong> Seminar with <a href=\"http:\/\/stephenslighthouse.sirsi.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Stephen Abram<\/a> where he outlined Top 10 Strategies for Library Success and with versatile wit, speed of thought and intelligent charm quietly blew the minds of 30 or so librarians.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 5:00pm &#8211; 5:30pm<\/strong> Made a short video clip of Stephen talking about 23 Things programs, to use for the launch of the 23 things at work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6:00pm &#8211; 10:30pm <\/strong>Shared food and drink with Stephen and six other librarians who all were interesting thinkers and conversationalists.<\/p>\n<p>Wow!<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE 2 September 2007:<\/strong> OK, so I had a lot of awesome library techie things improbably converge in the one 12 hour period. &#8220;Couldn&#8217;t possibly get better&#8221;, I thought.<\/p>\n<p>This weekend when catching up on my feeds, I discovered it did get better. On the same day, Michael Stephens from <a href=\"http:\/\/tametheweb.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tame the Web<\/a>\u00a0 highlighted this blog as one of his <a href=\"http:\/\/tametheweb.com\/2007\/08\/happy_blog_day.html\" target=\"_blank\">5 blogs for Blog Day07<\/a> that &#8220;inspire me, engage me and make me think&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Excuse me, I&#8217;m off to lie down in a quiet room.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, call me a twopointopian for loving my workday today.
