Good books\u00a0 follow me home. Most sit in the pile by the bed for a couple of months and then are returned, briefly opened, but unread.<\/p>\n<h3>By the bed pile:<\/h3>\n<p>Most\u00a0 seem to be less known works by authors who have had a  bestseller.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/librariansmatter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Bedside-readingsmall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2169\" title=\"Bedside readingsmall\" src=\"https:\/\/librariansmatter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Bedside-readingsmall.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"496\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The White Tiger, Aravind Adiga<\/li>\n<li>Tales from Firozsha Bahg, Rohinton Mistry<\/li>\n<li>My Nine Lives, Ruth Prawer Jhabvala<\/li>\n<li>Telling Tales, Melissa Katsoulis\n<ul>\n<li><em>history of literary hoaxes. I almost bought it as &#8220;aeroplane reading&#8221; last time I was in Melbourne, but it didn&#8217;t look wonderfully marvellous, so I saved my $$<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>House of Horrors, Nigel Hawthorne\n<ul>\n<li><em>about the guy in Austria who kept his daughter locked away and had a second family of several kids with her. I picked up just any book when I was testing things on the database, forgot to return it and so I&#8217;m somehow reading it &#8211; sensationalist and voyeuristic <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Moral Disorder, Margaret Attwood<\/li>\n<li>Island Beneath the Sea, Isabel Allende<\/li>\n<li>Bleeding Kansas, Sara Paretsky\n<ul>\n<li><em>set in Lawrence, Kansas where I spent a couple of weeks last year. Totally separate from the V. I. If you haven&#8217;t already seen it, please go right now and watch <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo\">Randy Pausch Last  Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood Dreams<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Beats: A Graphic History, Harvey Pekar et al<\/li>\n<li>Dear Fatty, Dawn French<\/li>\n<li>Girl Next Door, Alyssa Brugmart\n<ul>\n<li><em>YA title. I try to read one every couple of weeks<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Almost Moon, Alice Sebold\n<ul>\n<li><em>I enjoyed reading &#8220;The Lovely Bones&#8221;, but the tone of &#8220;Lucky&#8221; made me feel like throwing the book across the room at times. <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>In the Kitchen, Monica Ali<\/li>\n<li>The Star&#8217;s Tennis Balls, Stephen Fry\n<ul>\n<li><em>Must get on to this one<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Decca: The Letters of Jessica Mitford, Peter Y Sussman (ed.)\n<ul>\n<li><em>I&#8217;ve been reading this for the last four years.
