A couple of weeks ago the Australian Parliament officially announced, via the Australian Library and Information Association&#8217;s mailing list, that it will be porting its central<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/ww.aph.gov.au\/\"><em>http:\/\/www.aph.gov.au<\/em><\/a><em> website across to a <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc-nd\/3.0\/au\"><em>Creative Commons v3.0 BY-NC-ND Australian licence<\/em><\/a><em>. This is the website which houses all the most important documents of the Australian Federal Government \u2013 including all <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aph.gov.au\/bills\/index.htm\"><em>bills<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aph.gov.au\/committee\/index.htm\"><em>committee reports<\/em><\/a><em> and, most importantly, the <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aph.gov.au\/hansard\/index.htm\"><em>Hansard<\/em><\/a><em> transcript of Parliamentary Sittings \u2013 so this is a major move for the Australian Government.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>From the Australian Parliament announcement:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><p><em>The Parliament of Australia is committed to open access to the resources it publishes to support a vibrant democracy. Recognising the important of ensuring access to its resources published on the website the parliament has approved publication under a Creative Commons 3.0 Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs license (http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc-nd\/3.0\/au\/) instead of copyright protection. Full implementation will occur when the new web site is released in late 2010. Until then a notice appears on the copyright page advising of this change.<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\nWe are enormously excited at this step to open up parliamentary information.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Since its <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.creativecommons.org.au\/node\/295\"><em>endorsement of open access<\/em><\/a><em> as its preferred default in its response to the Gov 2.0 Report last month, the Federal Government has released the <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.creativecommons.org.au\/node\/297\"><em>Budget<\/em><\/a><em>, the <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.dbcde.gov.au\/dashboard.action\"><em>NBN implementation study<\/em><\/a><em> and the <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.finance.gov.au\/publications\/govresponse20report\/doc\/Government-Response-to-Gov-2-0-Report.pdf\"><em>Gov 2.0 response<\/em><\/a><em> itself all under CC licences.
