{"id":1415,"date":"2009-09-23T09:54:12","date_gmt":"2009-09-23T01:54:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/librariansmatter.com\/blog\/?p=1415"},"modified":"2009-09-23T09:54:12","modified_gmt":"2009-09-23T01:54:12","slug":"meeting-your-users-where-they-are-thanks-jenica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/librariansmatter.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/23\/meeting-your-users-where-they-are-thanks-jenica\/","title":{"rendered":"Meeting your users where they are &#8211; thanks Jenica"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What do you do if you are a university library director who steps out of the library on a Friday afternoon to find the pavement riddled with chalked signs saying &#8221; The library closes too early on Fridays&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/rogersurbanek.wordpress.com\/2009\/09\/22\/chalk-notes-as-a-valid-communication-format\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2669\/3940424235_56aa0cae75.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"269\" height=\"357\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>An older breed of library director would roll their eyes, feel annoyed, maybe get the paths cleaned&#8230;.then in the next week a small notice might appear on the website about why the opening hours are as they are&#8230;.or more typically, in the library newsletter that comes out two months later. Really engaged directors might post something on the library blog.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rogersurbanek.wordpress.com\/\">Jenica Rogers<\/a>, Director of <a href=\"http:\/\/wwwx.potsdam.edu\/library\/\">Libraries, State University of New York at Potsdam<\/a> got down on her hands and knees with pink chalk and wrote answers, <a href=\"http:\/\/rogersurbanek.wordpress.com\/2009\/09\/22\/chalk-notes-as-a-valid-communication-format\/\">Chalk Notes as a Valid Communication Format .<\/a> I love it that instead of writing &#8220;it&#8217;s the budget, stupid!&#8221;, she created a cliffhanger for the students and gave herself time to think about it over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Jenica is a great role model for a current generation of leaders who are reluctant to move up in to managment.
