Thanks for the feedback. Bronwyn asked me on Friday what was my highlight with the speaking I do, and I immediately answered "getting to meet all the people and hear what they are doing and what they think". Was great to meet you (again) Mal, Penny and Kim.

I don't think we caught up, Douglas (apologies if we did) but I love your idea of workshops before VALA to help speakers. I attended something very similar at University of Western Australia in May 2007 and blogged about it here: http://librariansmatter.com/blog/2007/05/29/practice-to-presentation-seminar-at-university-of-western-australia/ . It helped me immeasurably.

Thanks great wrap up. I agree Twitter stream did encourage outrageous behaviour. It was fun.

It think we are fortunate to have people like Paul and Luke to challenge and excite us about the possibilities of mash up. I was particularly enthralled by Paul's work on searching by colour of http://ll04.nla.gov.au and PHM doing similar stuff.

I can only hope that Alyson get the chance to sleep in for a week. It was lovely to meet you properly this time. Until next time :o)

The ability for presenters to engage an audience is an ongoing challenge... in all conferences. Rather than filtering the presenters, maybe we (well, conference organisers, or via crowdsourcing) could find ways of assisting them?

Maybe some sort of 'how to turn a paper into a presentation' workshops 1-2 months prior - face-to-face or maybe online, links to useful tutorial websites about presenting, opportunities to pre-present with a 'safe' audience who provide constructive and sympathetic feedback, presentation mentoring angels...?

Thanks for this wrapup Kathryn - it echoes a LOT of what I felt and experienced at VALA especially 5, 7,8 and 9.

Still to do mine :)

It was great to meet you again.

Thanks for all of the generous references to UTS. We tried hard and we enjoyed doing it, so it is nice to see that it was appreciated.
I will get a longer post done than my quick Twitter list of reminders. There isn't much overlap (yet), but I agree with your take-aways, apart from the point about David's tie.
Great to meet up and have a laugh IRL (I finally figured out what that means!). Doh!
